Cameroonian Muslims To Celebrate Islamic New Year on December 18, 2009

Al-Hijra is celebrated on the first day of the month of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar which is the month in which Muhammad emigrated from Mecca to Medina. The holiday is also simply called Muharram.

Many Muslims use this day to remember the significance of this month, and the Hijra, or migration of Islamic prophet Muhammed to the city now known as Medina.

The Cameroonian Embassy, the Hague will remain open on this date.
