Cameroonians in the Netherlands say Goodbye to Ambassador Odette Melono

Former Cameroonian Ambassador to the Netherlands, H.E Mrs. Odette Melono

On Saturday, 19 January 2019 at 17.00, Cameroonians in the Netherlands and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg gathered during a New Year’s Reception to say good bye to H.E Ambassador Mrs. Odette Melono.

Mrs. Melono has been Cameroon’s Head of Mission and Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg since 2008. She now leaves her role as Ambassador to take up her new function as the new Deputy Director of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in the Hague, the Netherlands as from
14 January 2019.

Ms Melono was the first ever full Cameroonian Ambassador to serve in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Before her appointment as Ambassador to the Netherlands, Ms Melono served at the Presidency of the Republic of Cameroon since 1995.

Ms Melono graduated from the University of Paris X with a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in Law, followed by a Master’s Degree in Corporate Tax Management from the University of Paris-Dauphine. She subsequently obtained a Master’s Degree as well as a Doctorate in International Relations from the University of Yaoundé II.

Last Saturday, Cameroonians representing all groups in the Netherlands and Luxembourg had one last opportunity to bid farewell to the only serving female Cameroonian Ambassador. She is praised for carrying out significant reforms and improving both the image and services at the Cameroonian Embassy in the Netherlands.
