Pres. Biya Presides Over Opening Ceremony of Women Africa Football Cup

can_feminine_2016_fullThe Head of State, H.E President Paul Biya on Saturday 19th November 2016 presided over the opening ceremony of the 10th edition of the Africa Women Football Cup of Nations at the Yaoundé Omnisports Stadium. He was accompanied by the First Lady Chantal Biya.

The opening ceremony began with a choreographic display highlighting Cameroon’s journey to modernity which began from her pre-colonial era. There was a full exhibition of Cameroon’s cultural prowess and plenty of acrobatic movements and pictorial displays, spiced with bright colours. This was also characterised by the anthem of the competition.

can_feminine_2016_mOver 40,000 football fans were present as Cameroon Lionesses faced Egypt’s Women Football team in the opening match. The indobmitable Lionesses of Cameroon beat Egypt 2:0.

The event marked Cameroon’s first time ever of hosting the Africa Women Football Cup of Nations.

The football tournament is expected to last for two weeks and includes the participation of eight teams competing for the continental title. They include: Cameroon, Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Mali.
