The Cameroonian Ambassador to the Netherlands, H.E Mrs Odette Melono has represented Cameroon at the International Criminal Court (ICC) first review conference on the Rome Statute in Kampala, Uganda.
The conference took place from the 31st of May to the 11th of June 2010. The purpose of the Conference was to evaluate the ICC, and make it more effective in prosecuting the world's most horrendous criminals. The delegates (countries) discussed the Court's past and future, and proposed changes to the Court's founding treaty, the Rome Statute.
H.E Melono left the Netherlands in the early hours of 30th of May, just squeezing herself out of what was a very tight scheduled. The night prior to her departure (29th of May 2010) was a night when hundreds of Cameroonians came together to celebrate the Cameroon National Day and Cameroon's 50th anniversary of indipendence. She was up the whole night and just managed to leave the gala night venue to catch her flight to Kampala. In Kampala the conference was opened by the president of Uganda, H.E Yuweri Museveni. Also presnt were the current Secretary General of the United Nations and the former Sec. Gen. of the UN, Misters Ban Ki Moon and Koffi Annan. It should be noted that Cameroon is a signatory of the Rome Statute that created the International Criminal Court. |
