The Cameroonian Embassy will not open on Thursday 13th & Friday 14th of May 2010 respectively. This is as a result of the fact that the 13th of May is Ascension Day, a Public Holiday observed in the Netherlands. Friday 14th of May falls between two Public Holidays... the 13th and the 15th of May (A saturday). In the Netherlands, such a day, most often, automatically becomes a public Holiday.

Historical Background

The Ascension is one of the great feasts in the Christian liturgical calendar, and commemorates the bodily Ascension of Jesus into "heaven". Ascension Day is traditionally celebrated on a Thursday, the 40th day from Easter day.The Christian doctrine of the Ascension holds that Jesus ascended to heaven in the presence of his Eleven Apostles (Judas not present) following his resurrection from the death.

The Ascension Day is alos observed as a Public Holiday in Cameroon as well as Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Indonesia, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Vanuatu etc). Germany also holds its Fathers' Day on the same date.

When the Embassy Re-opens

The Embassy re-opens its doors again on Monday the 17th of May 2010. For any inquiries please contact the Embassy.
