His Excellency President Paul Biya has praised the talent, courage and commitment of the Indomitable Lionesses for their football achievements during the just ended Women Africa Cup of Nations in Yaounde.  The Head of State described the girls as “Dignified Ambassadors of Cameroon”.

President Biya referred to the fighting spirit of the female footballers, which he said was an inspiration to the Cameroonian youths.

The President also drew attention to, and heartily congratulated the Female National team Head Coach Ngatchu Enow and the rest of the technical team.

In relations to the entire organization of the tournament, the Head of State considered it another victory for Cameroon. He made reference to the exhibition of Cameroon’s cultural diversity and prowess and saluted everyone involved in making sure the tournament ended up a great success.

To the Lionesses, President Biya told them: “Cameroon is proud of you, you must be proud to be Cameroonian”. It should be noted that the Lionesses of Cameroon lost to Nigeria 1:0 in the final of Women Africa Cup of Nations 2016. They are therefore the 2016 runners-up. Cameroon hosted the tournament for the first time in its history.

The ceremony at State House attended by cabinet members was also characterised by informal mingling and taking of photographs and “Selfies” with the presidential couple by the female footballing heroes.
