DEATH ANNOUNCEMENT – Ambassador Mathieu Blaise Banoum (Former Chargé d’affaires)


Late His Excellency Ambassador (Mr.) Mathieu Blaise Banoum, Minister Counsellor and former Chargé d’affaires at the Cameroonian Embassy in The Hague

The Embassy of Cameroon in the Netherlands hereby announces the sad news of the passing of one of Cameroon’s finest Diplomats, His Excellency Ambassador (Mr.) Mathieu Blaise Banoum, Minister Counsellor and former Chargé d’affaires at the Cameroonian Embassy in The Hague.

According to family sources H.E Banoum passed away on Monday 30th of March 2020 in his home in Cameroon. Mr. Banoum was a much loved and respected diplomat and gentleman during his time at the Cameroonian Embassy in The Hague. He was very much appreciated by the Cameroonian communities in the Netherlands and Luxembourg and described as humble and fatherly.

His passing represents the end of a long career within the Cameroon Diplomatic Service, which also included representing Cameroon at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Cameroon at the United Nations under the rank of Minister Counsellor. One of Ambassador Banoum’s most recent positions was working as Advisor in African Union Commission’s Bureau of the Deputy Chairperson in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

He was educated at the International Relations Institute of Cameroon (IRIC). He also held a Master’s Degree in Economics. Full details of his death are yet to be communicated to the Embassy.

The embassy intends to organise an event where Cameroonians and friends of Cameroon will be able to pay our last respects to a much loved diplomat who served with honour and integrity. However due to the current Coronavirus outbreak, any such event will take place after the end of the crisis.

The Embassy will update the public of funeral details as they come in.
